At Hennekam Wine Consultancy, we have over 12 years' experience in the wine industry. Priscilla's wine studies include all aspects from viticulture and wine production to wine business and wine marketing; she has worked in 3 countries and travelled through over 40 wine regions around the world, and; has a network of contacts spanning the globe.
Beyond her wine background, Priscilla has over 20 years of sales experience. When she was 14 and saw someone sell their puppy for money, so immediately set her dog to work and began selling her own. Since then, she has sold mobile phone minutes, perfume, swimwear, and more.
Recently Priscilla began to realise the importance that technology will play in the future of the wine industry, and began to immerse herself in it. She has been involved in researching and implementing new technologies for a winery in Brazil and has spoken on Tech in the Wine Industry for the CSIRO.
Combined with our strong passion for incorporating technology and out-of-the-box ideas in the wine industry, we believe Hennekam Wine Consultancy is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between the tech industry and the wine world.
The wine industry is struggling. Global wine sales are in decline, while competition is fierce, and even mother nature seems to be against producers, with extreme weather events and a changing climate. Inflation is making everything more expensive and causing consumers to tighten their wallets.
Technology and innovative businesses have a lot of the solutions that the wine industry needs, however many of these lies too far outside of the box for the traditionally conservative wine industry. Additionally, installing new technologies typically requires significant initial investments and comes with uncertainties that technology companies have struggled to explain in a way that engages the wine industry.
So, despite the enormous opportunity available for early adopters, amid a cash flow crisis, and with a mix of artisanal pride and a general distrust of technology, wineries are proving especially slow to test and adopt innovations that could revolutionize the industry.
By necessity, the innovation and the wine world are very different. The tech industry is fast paced, and cut-throat, while the wine world is slower and more romantic. The first part of the problem is helping each to understand the other.
